I'M CODY CHENG, ALSO KNOWN AS CODY COYOTE, HENCE THE DESERT DOG

Videographer, designer, creator, and someone who's always making something. Music, custom signage, a solar-powered van from scratch. If it can be built by hand, that's where I am.

HERE’S THE BACKSTORY OF DESERT DOG FILMS

I didn't start with a studio. I started with a van. Before that, U.S. Army, 2009 to 2013. Purple Heart Recipient. After that I went to Portland State University, got a film degree and a graphic design minor, and figured out the next move.

THE NEXT MOVE WAS A VAN.

In 2016, after graduating from Portland State, I sold everything I owned, bought a Sprinter van, built it out solar-powered, and spent three years on the road making content for outdoor brands — Stanley, KEEN, Fjällräven, Article, Stay Wild, Mercedes-Benz Vans. Grew a YouTube channel to 50K subscribers and millions of views. During that same stretch, co-founded Dynamo Ultima, a brand design studio that's still running today.

In 2020 the road chapter ended. Went full-time on design — brands, websites, visual identities for businesses across the country.

In 2026, after building a successful design studio, I came back to what I'm most passionate about. Videography. Desert Dog Films was born.

OFF THE CLOCK:

Making music and building things — 3D printing custom restaurant signage, solar-powered vans from scratch, a full Mandelorian helmet and costume for halloween. If it can be made by hand, that's usually where I am.

The outdoors is a big part of it too. In 2020 I hiked the Oregon section of the Pacific Crest Trail. I mountain bike, backpack, and snowboard whenever I can. Also: good beer, time with my wife, and two opinionated pets — a dachshund named Ozzy and a black cat named Zeppelin.
